Python has dozens of built-in functions, but there are also a wealth of interesting modules in the Python standard library.
Doug Hellman runs a lovely site called Python Module of the Week where he explains the uses of various standard library modules in his own words. You might find it helpful to refer to alongside the official Python documentation.
